TALK TALK KANO
Hello Fatima ! Sannu Fatima!
Fatima works at Alliance Française Kano.
Fatima speaks Hausa. Hausa is the most widely spoken indigenous African language. It is spoken by about 150 million people. There are different dialects in different regions such as Ghana, Chad and Cameroon.
Kano is the second largest city in Nigeria. It is an ancient city that has been a centre for trans-Saharan trade for centuries. In the 12th Century Kano became a Sultanate. In the 19th Century Kano became an Emirate of the Sokoto Caliphate. The city was once surrounded by fortified walls. Some parts of the walls can still be seen.
In the old city you can still see the traditional indigo dye-pits.
Every year the Emir of Kano hosts a Durbar to celebrate Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.
